THE PARAMOUR SESSIONS - 2006
Papa Roach hole up in a Los Angeles mansion and emerge several months later with perhaps the best modern rock album of the year. The key here is matured songwriting and a sharp unified focus.

LIFE & MURDEROUS IN CHICAGO DVD - 2005
Papa Roach plays songs from all of their three previous records as well as songs from the new one "Getting Away With Murder," often explaining which year they're gonna take you to with the next song. Guitarist Jerry Horton, bassist Tobin Esperance and drummer Dave Buckner did their job with a fury, creating a solid background for the frontman to entertain the audience. Jacoby acts on stage as if being led by the devil. The stage was definitely too small for Jacoby as he spent most of the show jumping from one amp to another.

GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER - 2004
With every passing day, rap metal is seeming more and more like a bad high school joke. But Papa Roach have hung in there by turning out catchy hard rock that's as muscular as vintage Motorhead. Getting Away With Murder, the band's fourth album (and first completely rhyme-free disc), doesn't have the Ginsu-sharp impact of 2002's Lovehatetragedy, but almost every song features a skull-rattling groove and one or two darkly melodic hooks. On the title track, Jacoby Shaddix drops a singsong chorus over a chugging electro-riff that's more Ministry than Iron Maiden; "Be Free" begins with an I-got-wasted narrative that might have come from the Offspring if it weren't for the pile-driving dose of AA-meeting-worthy self-loathing. That's the way it is with Papa Roach: You accept Shaddix's functional dysfunction because the songs rock so smartly.

LOVEHATETRAGEDY - 2002
On the follow-up to their major label debut Infest, Papa Roach expands the parameters of the aggro-rock blueprint they've drawn up by consciously putting their more overt hip-hop influences to the side. Writing most of LOVEHATETRAGEDY on the road while touring as part of Ozzfest 2001 gave main lyricist/vocalist Jacoby Shaddix (the artist formerly known as Coby Dick) plenty of time to reflect over relationships with his band, significant other, himself, and the world. Pouring his energies into singing rather than rapping (with the exception of the groove-driven 'She Loves Me Not'), Shaddix addresses depression (the murky 'Black Clouds'), the enormity of 9/11 (the melodic title track) and existentialism (the thunderous 'Life Is A Bullet'). Papa Roach delivers a Phillip K. Dick-flavored cyber-tale derived from a conversation with Slipknot's DJ (the sinister, RATM-like 'Singular Indestructible Droid') and even gives props to Shaddix's recently deceased dog (the pounding 'Walking True Barbed Wire'''). Best of all are a pair of bonus cuts that include a simmering cover of The Pixies' 'Gouge Away' sure to put a smile on Frank Black's face.

INFEST - 2000
Papa Roach was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best New Artist and 'Broken Home' was nominated for Best Short Form Music Video.Papa Roach's major label debut on Dreamworks Records. With songs about everything from divorce ('Broken Home'), to struggles with alcohol ('Binge'), the four-piece, hard rock outfit laces the listener with magnum doses of reality. Written mostly with its audience's tortured psyches in mind, INFEST aims to let the kids know that they aren't alone in dealing with the pressures and obstacles life can bring, with songs such as the socially conscious 'Last Resort,' which discusses suicide, alienation and isolation. The production on the album, via Jay Baumgardner, is polished and yet passionate, and singer Coby Dick's vocals are stingingly sharp and energetic. Some of INFEST's other highlights are 'Dead Cell,' the snappily-titled 'Between Angeles and Insects,' and 'Never Enough.' INFEST is a consistently impressive debut.
